Colorado man rescued after crashing plane in Coachella Valley

A Denver man was rescued after crash-landing his plane in Riverside County, authorities said Monday.
David Wedmore, 60, was flying his single-engine Cessna late Sunday when he crash-landed about eight miles east of the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in the Coachella Valley, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were alerted to the aircraft emergency just after 10:30 p.m. and eventually made contact with Wedmore via cellphone.
Within an hour, rescuers from San Bernardino and Riverside counties’ sheriff’s departments used GPS coordinates to find Wedmore, who was conscious. Officials said he had injuries to his head and face.
He was hospitalized and is expected to survive. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified, authorities said.
The cause of the crash-landing was under investigation.
